Aug. 2012

The Representative for Children and Youth presented Making Human Rights Relevant to Children at the International Summer Course on the Rights of the Child in Moncton, NB.  The paper examines how human rights can be made real for children in their every day worlds.  It draws attention to challenges in defining children's human rights, determining what rights are relevant to children, and the complexity of international human rights law as the legal source for children's human rights.  To view this paper, please click here.

The Representative for Children and Youth has made a submission to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada, which highlights the inter-generatonal impact of residential schools on today's children and discusses the importance of using concepts of children's human rights as a useful framework for reconciliation and preventing harm to current and future generations of Aboriginal children.  To view this submission, please click here.

The Canadian Council of Child and Youth Advocates (CCCYA) is a national alliance of child advocates legally appointed by the Canadian provinces and territories.  CCCYA has submitted the following Special Report, titled Aboriginal Children-Canada Must Do Better: Today and Tomorrow, to the United Nations Committee on the Rights of the Child, and asked that they consider our Special Report during their review of Canada's implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child ('CRC') in its 2012 forthcoming session.
