On Nov. 15, 20110, government announced that members of an all-party Special Committee to Appoint a Representative for Children and Youth unanimously recommended that the House reappoint Mary Ellen Turpel-Lafond for a second term as the Representative for Children and Youth for British Columbia. This is the committee’s report.

This report on the Representative’s investigation looks into the chaotic life and unexpected death of a four-month-old First Nations infant. It identifies troubling inadequacies in planning, case management and decision-making, and makes recommendations to address gaps in how government and delegated Aboriginal agencies work together, and in how courts assess potential caregivers.

Kids, Crime and Care: Youth Justice Experiences and Outcomes


A major B.C. study released today shows that although children and youth in care are at higher risk of becoming involved with the youth justice system, early interventions targeted at risk factors can change the paths of these vulnerable adolescents. The study is a joint project of the Representative for Children and Youth, and the Provincial Health Officer.
